CSR and sustainable development at AXEM Technology!

State of affairs

An international week for the climate is being prepared and will take place from September 20 to 27, with several highlights. To date, two mobilizations are planned in Paris and maybe many more in the rest of the world. These gatherings sound like a last warning in the face of the climate emergency that we have been facing for several years now. The stakes are high: finding solutions together.

Indeed, our planet Earth is going badly. Not only are our resources beginning to run out, but they are also being overexploited. We lack infrastructure dedicated to recycling, which leads to full and saturated factories. The observation is clear: plastic objects, a real environmental scourge, are not properly collected and only increase the risk of pollution. Each year, Europeans consume about 58 million tons of plastic, 39% of which is incinerated and 31%, or 25.8 million tons, is disposed of in landfills. Currently, only 30% of plastic is recycled [1].

At the same level, a study[2] carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO), shows that pollution and particles in the outdoor air, caused by road infrastructures, are classified as carcinogenic for humans. All air pollutants represent a major sanitary issue for the future of human beings and in particular their health. Moreover, it is estimated that exposure to these pollutants visibly reduces life expectancy by 8.2 months. On average, it is responsible for 6% of premature deaths in France. This is therefore one of the priority areas for action for the company.

All mobilized for the climate!

At its level, AXEM Technology, as a designer, manufacturer and distributor of RFID products, approaches this problem by working in accordance with the principles of the CSR approach. For the past 4 years, the company has been integrating a responsible strategy with all of its employees and seeks to have a positive impact on our society by respecting its environment.

Reduce, recycle, reuse, recondition and repair! This is our motto that we apply internally and externally.
By focusing on one of its primary objectives, the reduction of polluting emissions, such as greenhouse gases and atmospheric pollutants (carbon dioxide: CO2, nitrogen oxides: NOx, sulphur oxides: SOx), AXEM Technology is fighting for the climate, the environment and human health.

Its commitment is reflected in various actions already implemented, for example

The provision of hybrid vehicles, particularly for employees who are far from the workplace and not served by public transport,
Promoting the use of sea and rail transport, which generates fewer polluting emissions than air or road transport, to its customers,
Encouraging eco-citizen actions in the premises, such as the use of controlled air conditioning (19°C in winter and 26°C in summer),
The installation of a shower to encourage commuting to the office by bicycle and the practice of sports at lunchtime,
The distribution of fresh organic fruit every week,
The installation of a refectory, etc…

Other improvements are to come and will be implemented shortly. Each new arrival at AXEM Technology is a good opportunity to raise awareness and inform about our sustainable development issues. To reinforce this idea, a welcome booklet is distributed and an internal regulation is being created.
The path towards a more “circular” economy[3] is still extremely difficult. There are various factors such as costs and logistics that make recycling more complicated and restrictive. For AXEM Technology, contributing to the well-being of its employees and to the protection of the environment has become a priority. This is why the company has chosen to work with more than 30% of suppliers who display a “green” or CSR characteristic.
This set of considerations shows that all stakeholders are aware of environmental issues and are real players in the ecological transition.

[3] Definition of the term Circular Economy: production of goods and services, limiting the consumption and waste of raw materials, water and energy sources.
