Optimizing automotive logistics with RFID
Iziflo is a business suite developed by Syartec for multi-brand automotive distributors. It allows dealers to perform sales, sales administration and logistics operations within the same solution. It will be used by the head office teams as well as by the different sites, and thus responds to the challenges faced by all automotive distributors.
The challenges of a car dealership
- High error rate in vehicle identification: Even today, many vehicles are identified by barcode labels, including the chassis number. When exposed to the weather, these labels are often torn or illegible. During the various stages, this 17-character number is re-entered by hand, which results in a high error rate.
- Lack of precision in locating vehicles in the fleet: while it is easy to know the number of vehicles in a fleet, it is much more complex to locate a particular vehicle. We will know the fleet, but it may contain hundreds of vehicles, without being able to easily identify its position in the fleet.
- Lack of updated information: information on the arrival of a chassis, the discovery of damage, its transfer or its preparation is often entered by the logistics teams into the software at the end of the day, and is not known by the other teams until the following day.
- The arduousness of the work: the identification of vehicles is usually done manually, and therefore requires a significant amount of time per chassis, on a fleet, in weather conditions that are not always obvious.
To address these issues, Iziflo facilitates the link between logistics and sales administration teams: at each step, for each operation, the vehicle is now scanned using RFID and the information is sent in real time to the sales department.
Uses of RFID
RFID allows automating and digitizing the activity of car dealerships.
When a vehicle is received, an RFID tag is associated with the vehicle's chassis, which will follow it through all its stages, until delivery to the end customer.
RFID will thus allow :
- Reliable vehicle identification: both when vehicles are unloaded from the boat, and during the transfer stages: the Reader RFID UHF detects the RFID tags on each vehicle in just a few seconds, enabling the presence and status of all vehicles to be verified. The use of RFID eliminates data entry errors.
- Have real-time visibility of the fleet
Using the UHF RFID Reader , you can immediately update the status of each chassis: transfer from one fleet to another, damage report, etc. The information is instantly sent to iziflo and visible to all users.
- Precise geolocation:
Thanks to the use of RFID, it is possible to know the precise position of the vehicle during its last scan and to visualize it on a map. It is thus possible to go directly to the indicated coordinates within the park.
- An accurate and fast inventory
Thanks to RFID, the inventory of the vehicles is easily done: it allows a reduction of the errors related to the manual counting, a saving of time, and to reduce the time of physical presence on the park of the agents.
