October 16th was World Food Day. On this occasion, AXEM Technology decided to contribute to the fight against food waste.
A sad reality
This is nothing new: the French waste far too much. In fact, 10 million metric tons of food end up in the trash every year. In 2013, the government set a goal of reducing waste across the entire food supply chain by 50% by 2025, prior to the passage of an “anti-waste” law that took effect in 2016.
With this in mind, ADEME (the French Environment and Energy Management Agency) conducted and published the results of an “anti-waste” initiative focused on household habits. In four regions of France, several families (250 households) were selected based on their profiles to adopt a few simple daily habits for a period of time.
The results are astonishing: 59% less food waste! This wonderful experiment seems to show that, through small actions, it’s possible to significantly reduce waste.

Every citizen can play an important role in the fight against food waste.
In response to this global movement, the team atAXEM Technology is sharing their everyday tips so you, too, can get involved:
- The prettiest fruits aren't necessarily the best! Give slightly spotted bananas or misshapen potatoes a chance.
- Avoid throwing food away too quickly. While expiration dates are indeed a safety measure for retailers, a little flexibility can help prevent waste.
- Is your fruit too ripe? Turn it into a compote or a smoothie to give it a new lease on life!
- Don't buy too much, and check your refrigerator regularly.
- If you have a freezer, storing your leftovers lets you keep your food for a long time!
These actions are easy to incorporate into our daily lives.
