Access control to the waste collection centers

Mobility and RFID: optimizing waste collection and access to waste collection centers

August 27, 2019

The success of RFID technology in controlling access to recycling centers is well established. By delivering real productivity gains, it enables municipalities to control access, track what each person brings in, and manage the data collected through RFID technology.

Controlling Access to Recycling Centers

Choosing an RFID Solution for Access Control

  • User Traceability
  • An improved user experience through the use of a contactless card and time savings for recycling centers
  • Optimized Management data collected

Identifiers

To manage access to recycling centers, municipalities issue cards tailored to the type of user—whether a business or a resident.

These cards, typically made of PVC, are contactless cards that incorporate a radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip. The chip controls communications with the Reader, data storage and encryption, as well as access security. AXEM Technologie supplies RFID cards in all three frequencies—UHF, HF, and LF—as well as dual-technology cards (with two contactless chips) and hybrid cards (contact/contactless), which are configured upon request. All cards are available with printing and customization options (printing, encoding, etc.).

AXEM Technology offers a wide range of customizable UHF, HF, and LF cards for managing access control at recycling centers, for both individuals and businesses.

Recycling centers are equipped with fixed RFID re readers s built into kiosks or mobile RFID re readers s that enable user identification. AXEM Technology specializes in mobile, ruggedized RFID re readers s.

readers Mobile RFID

Mobile RFIDreaders s designed for access control are ruggedized devices (ruggedized PDAs, ruggedized Bluetooth- Reader s, ruggedized tablets). Regardless of the RFID technology deployed, the product line includes single-frequency or tri-frequency readers s. Some devices are also equipped with a 1D/2D scanner.

RFID, which is increasingly used in waste management, also facilitates waste collection.

Optimizing Waste Management

RFID is used, in particular, to identify and track the logistics flows of waste containers, plastic pallets, plastic bins, and more. In fact, an RFID tag can be attached to each container or dumpster. Depending on the hardware solutions implemented, the RFID truck can be equipped with RFID antennas and an RFID Reader that identifies the container being scanned. In other cases, an operator equipped with a mobile RFID Reader —such as a PDA, tablet, or RFID- Reader —can identify the container in question in just a few seconds.

RFID facilitates the automation of waste collection.

While HF and LF RFID technologies are already widely used, UHF RFID technology is becoming increasingly prevalent because it allows for longer read ranges.

Choosing an RFID Solution

  • Productivity gains: optimization of waste collection, particularly the routes taken by garbage trucks.
  • Promoting recycling and reducing environmental impact: identifying the end user, thereby enabling monitoring of the volume of waste produced and the quality of the sorting process.
  • Real-time tracking of operations: garbage truck routes…

What about UHF RFID technology?

  • Reduced errors and missed detections, and easier integration of RFID technology thanks to longer read ranges.

Our RFID hardware solutions: tags and mobile- readers s

Identifiers

Depending on the customer and the equipment used, waste collection is carried out in various ways. Consequently, our range of identification tags includes tags in a variety of designs to accommodate the specific requirements of the operation: collection of bins, dumpsters, or containers of various sizes, shapes, and materials (metal, plastic) by trucks with different loading configurations (rear, front, or side), etc. The tag can thus be attached directly to the trash can, affixed to the receptacle, container, dumpster, or trash can, or even directly to the plastic bag.

readers Mobile RFID

Mobile RFID " readers " designed for access control at waste collection centers are also suitable for tracking waste collection. Resistant to the environmental conditions associated with this activity (water, impacts, temperature fluctuations, sun exposure, etc.), they can identify the container being scanned in just a few seconds.
